The Para Nymph is a pattern created and shown to me by Tom Baltz, a four time state fly tying champion and fishing guide in Pennsylvania. Tom uses this fly with great effectiveness, drifting it in the surface film. Although Tom described his exact fly to us thoroughly, we made several modifications for tying ease and durability. Tom prefers to use orange calf hair for a wing post and we use orange Hi-Vis. Our body is a custom dubbing blend which has ultimately resulted in a deadly pattern.
Try this effective pattern when you can detect a hatch but are not quite certain what is hatching. Or, treat it as a system fly and modify the material colors to suit your hatch needs. The fly is fished as is because the Hi-Vis is "water resistant" and floats the fly just enough so you can see it drifting.
